Marine/ Oil and Gas Outdoor Applications

Modern ships are fully equipped with digital control units, drives, IP cameras, sensor technology and telecommunications units. To transmit large volumes of data quickly and cleanly, high-quality copper and fiber optic networks are used. Fiber optic Ethernet backbones can be used for long distances where a large bandwidth is needed for the large data traffic. Copper cables can be used with an appropriate switch to supply power and data to PoE cameras. The great advantage of a stable PoE connection is that the IP cameras are powered thanks to an Ethernet connection.

In a ship, highly flexible (PUR/TPU/TPE outer jacket) and thin copper cables, as well as bend-insensitive FO fibers, offer optimal space utilization within the narrow bays, and thus ensure that the lack of space within the ship is efficiently used. Thanks to our PRO-MXS and SMARTFlex-XS RJ-45 connection cables, we offer an optimal solution with a small bending radius and high flexibility.

Cables that have high temperature ratings and oil resistance should be used indoors. For outdoor applications, UV-resistant connection cables are recommended to avoid data loss due to solar radiation. For these requirements, we offer a wide range of different connection technologies which optionally can include IP protection in order to offer ideal overall solutions for shipbuilding.

Due to the many engines installed in ships, vibration influences play a major role in shipbuilding. Thanks to our SCREWLockSCREWBoot and Push-Pull system solutions, we can guarantee secure data transmission in the event of external vibration influences, and thus avoid Ethernet interruptions. Also, sensors with frequency measurement could report a malfunction of the motor and thus avoid system failures. We can help you set up sensors with frequency measurement for your motors.

An increase in indoor temperature could lead to a total interruption of data transmission in the cable ducts, thus causing control and system errors. Therefore, temperature sensors should be used to cool down the room temperature, by fans, etc., when an increase occurs. Intelligent components can report interruptions of data transmission. By using copper or fiber optic components with high packing density (high-density), more connections can be accommodated in one area or space.

Industrial automation (Industry 4.0)

The predominance of bus systems for controlling and communicating machines in the factory are being replaced by Ethernet-connected cabling systems. This allows production machines to be remotely controlled and monitored through Ethernet connections.

The number of robotic arms for automated production processes is constantly increasing. Industry 4.0 is advancing faster than expected in order to increase productivity in a cost effective and competitive manner, and to monitor and control production halls and machines in real time. Ethernet solutions for industrial automation (Industry 4.0) represent the strategically most important business area of AIXONTEC GmbH. Here, we can offer a wide range of cables with abrasion-resistant, temperature-resistant, oil- and UV-resistant outer jackets and systems.

Water-resistant cabling systems and low-vibration Ethernet connection technology are just as much a part of our portfolio as intelligent connection technology with RFID technology to prevent unwanted interruptions to data exchange. We can provide RJ-45 modules with smallest design as well as with over-molded RJ-45 and M12 connectors from our own production.

With our own development team and assembly line in Germany, we manage to deliver innovative and high quality products. The over-molded M12 as well as RJ-45 patch cords reduce the risk of cable breakage on the connector side, and provide high protection against vibration and loss of contact. Thanks to our wide range of innovative products and strict quality control - ISO9001:2015 certified - we have established ourselves as a reputable partner of many well-known manufacturers.

Rail transport / infrastructure

Rail traffic monitoring and safety communication systems are evolving. Fiber optic cables can be used over long distances to communicate and control real-time monitoring from rail traffic. A network infrastructure can be designed and installed in copper or fiber optic cable, depending on the application.

Usually, new cables and components of the network infrastructure are to be accommodated into existing control cabinets. For the accommodation of fiber optic, copper, as well as multimedia connection technology on DIN rails, our modular MMP system offers excellent solutions for the retrofitting and expansion of existing components in a control cabinet. Robust cables with an abrasion-resistant outer sheath or with metallic armor to protect against rodents are indispensable to avoid costly and dangerous interruption of data transmission. Data cables with a PE outer jacket can be installed in an empty conduit or directly underground, providing invisible, fixed and stable LAN data transmission.

To provide ideal support for your project plans. we offer excellent total solutions for directly laid data cables with UV and rodent protection, and also provide corresponding cables up to hybrid cable solutions.

Intelligent transport systems / infrastructure

Our cities are becoming ever larger and more complex. As a result, we need new digital systems that optimally monitor our mobility and manage traffic efficiently and sustainably. Future transportation planning for smart cities requires innovative mobility ecosystems that combine our freedom of movement in confined spaces with autonomous driving, safety, and a high quality of life, while still ensuring lower carbon dioxide emissions.

The flood of data volumes collected and managed by IP cameras, traffic lights, toll systems, and digital signage require a thoughtful and strong network infrastructure. To intelligently connect such devices to each other and to traffic control centers, a mix of wireless and wired systems is required.

Fiber optic cables are optimal to be used for long distances and backbone cabling. Outdoor copper cables with UV protection are more likely to be used for intelligent traffic lights and IP cameras on masts with PoE function. For traffic control centers, we offer high-quality RJ-45 patch cables that safely enable 10 GbE or even up to 25/40 GbE data transmission.

For the connection of intelligent traffic light systems on poles, we offer our outdoor copper cables in combination with field-terminable CAT6A RJ-45 connectors. For the retrofitting of fiber optic or copper components, we offer a wide range of possible solutions for use on DIN rails, and water-protected distribution boxes with IP protection.

SmartGrid / Energy

Fiber optic cables can be used for real-time monitoring, control and data exchange between various sensors and devices in the power distribution network - meters, PLCs, relays, fault sensors, etc. Fiber optic cables allow optical signals to bridge long distances with high bandwidth without amplifiers.

For optimal data transmission of optical fibers over long distances, care must be taken to minimize light wave loss. The selection of high quality components, as well as a clean and professional assembly of the optical fiber cables and components, plays a major role in fiber attenuation (also called signal or fiber loss). The use of components with high packing density can ensure optimal space utilization in the control cabinet. For error-free and cost-effective installation, we recommend using FO trunks (tested and pre-assembled bundles of &/12/24 FO cables).

As a plug & play solution with prior planning, the FO trunk cable can contribute to fast, cost-effective and high-quality data transmission.

Application examples:

  • Intelligent power networks (SmartGrid)
  • Automation networks for substations
  • Automation and control of solar plants
  • Meter networks

Secure and modern IT network cabling for office, home and data center

When designing the network of your building, it is important to have an efficient, high-performance and future-proof architecture. Structured network cabling is part of the technical infrastructure of a building. It is divided into primary, secondary and tertiary cabling. A structured cabling system is based on a universal structure that offers sufficient reserves for the respective application, and can be used independently from the application.

The PoE standard IEEE 802.3bt enables the power supply of end devices with up to 90W over the same data cable. According to the standards of cabling ISO/IEC 11801, the length of copper cables for tertiary floor cabling to workstations is limited to 90 meters. Fiber optic cables can be used with more bandwidth and longer distances for backbone cabling in the data center.

If the standardized lengths are exceeded, signal loss (insertion loss) as well as propagation delays can affect network performance. Integral parts of a modern and future-proof IT infrastructure include the use of patch panels or modular plug-in systems with high packaging densities, and fiber optic or copper trunks for plug & play solutions. Also, intelligent floor tank solutions are available to allow for future applications and to avoid expensive construction measures.

Passive network cabling should be able to withstand 15-20 years. The network infrastructure should be adapted to your particular application. We would be happy to advise you regarding system solutions best suited to your project or application.

AIXONTEC GmbH not only offers innovative solutions for a fast and future-proof passive network infrastructure, but can support you in selecting the right components for your construction project or other projects. We hope to support you with good network advice, and add you to our list of numerous customers.
